London Southend Airport

A two phase period of development aims to reach final completion in 2011. Phase 1 will see the development of a new four star on-site hotel opening in December 2008, and a new control tower building and new on-site railway station, both opening in Spring 2009. The new station will provide fast and frequent train services direct to Stratford (for Docklands and Canary Wharf) and to central London’s Liverpool Street Station. It will supply passengers with faster door-to-door times inbound to London.

Further measures to upgrade the existing terminal building, will include improved passenger and executive lounges, and crew briefing facilities.

Phase 2, should follow completion of the JAAP in 2009, and could include an extension of the existing runway and greenbelt use around the Airport, and construction of a new terminal building to be operational in Spring 2011. These improvements would allow the Airport to operate the new generation of medium capacity, high-efficiency jets being adopted by regional airlines and operate scheduled flights and shorter range holiday charters.

The Regeneration Framework also signals possible expansion and development of the Aviation Way Business Park to provide 80,000 sqm of new employment space and over 1,500 new jobs through to 2021.
