Country Park

This project proposes that a new Country Park should be located to the north east of the Borough, recognising that although there is good access to parks, woodland and open space to the west of the Borough, and into Castle Point, to the east there is very little accessible open space of any great quality. The land to the north-east forms part of the green belt and is largely agricultural. The Country Park could be delivered in a number of ways, and be focused around a number of themes. The new parkĀ could be a destination in its own right, and provide a sense of arrival to the open countryside of the estuarine marshlands of the Rivers Crouch and Roach to the north-east, thereby improving public accessibility to the countryside and the rich natural habitats within it. Funding for implementation would be a combination of public and private funding, primarily through developers contributions (S106).

We have brought together a group of partner organisations to form a Steering Group, and together we are considering the options for this project. Partners include Southend Borough Council, Rochford District Council, Land Restoration Trust, Essex Wildlife Trust, RSPB, Natural England and Essex County Council.
