Belfairs Woodlands Resource Centre

Belfairs Park and Belfairs Nature Reserve accommodate a range of outdoor sports making it a multi-use leisure amenity facility for many local people and visitors to the town. There is a busy golf course, horse riding stables, bowling greens, gardens, cycling on the newly installed Greenway and an extensive footpath network. The new Woodlands Resource centre will be an exemplar scheme for Southend demonstrating and promoting the use of sustainably produced local timber and other woodland produce, while maintaining the surrounding woodland as an important asset for the Borough and the wider sub-region. It will provide an attraction that will aid the understanding of the woodland, its regional and national significance, its history and background, and its management operations, through a varied range of events, and educational and leisure opportunities. The project is being taken forward by a partnership between Southend-on-Sea Borough Council and Essex Wildlife Trust, who will be responsible for its future management.

We are working with both the Trust and the Council to progress the design of the new building as an exemplar of sustainable development on the edge of the woodland.
