Restoration planned for historic churchyard
Renaissance Southend is working with Groundwork South Essex, St John the Baptist Church and Southend on Sea Borough Council to restore and enhance the St John the Baptist Church Gardens. We’d like your views on our proposals.
A small exhibition showing the plans and changes can now be seen at the Church which will be open from 10am to 12.30pm, Wednesday through to Saturday until the end of January.

The Church Gardens, and indeed St. John’s Church itself, should play an important role in the creation of an attractive new quarter for the town centre, linking Southend’s important historical urban heritage to the future. The Church Gardens are a valuable asset as a ‘green oasis’ in a heavily developed urban environment. There is potential for an improved level of public access, and more should be made of the Garden’s visual amenity as well as the architectural value of the Church.
Currently working in partnership with Groundwork South Essex .
