Warrior Square and Warrior Square Gardens are identified as a Key Site in the Southend Central Area Masterplan (Final Report March 2008). Plans for the redesign and improvement of the Gardens are well-advanced. Such improvements will celebrate the importance of this unique green space in the town centre and support the potential for proposed new development on the land to the south occupied by the swimming pool and the public car park.
RSL and the Council are preparing a Site Development Brief for this area to determine the layout and amount of possible new development that could come forward following decommissioning of the swimming pool and the opening of a new replacement swimming pool at Garons Park in Autumn 2010.
The Site Development Brief will provide a planning framework to support the creation of a new mix of uses with the emphasis on the provision of new high quality office and residential development in accordance with the strategies described in the Southend Central Area Masterplan.
It is intended that the SDB shall be approved and adopted by the Council as Corporate Guidance in relation to the Site’s future development and inform the preparation of the Central Southend Area Action Plan DPD now underway.
