Clifftown is identified as a Key Site in the Southend Central Area Masterplan (Final Report March 2008). Our strategy is to support the development of the area as a developing cultural quarter and niche retail, restaurant and residential location. Our aim is to enhance the public realm in keeping with the fine grain of its buildings, small streets, lanes, mews and yards, and reveal new opportunities for business and residential investment.
Our vision is for routes generally to be pedestrian-priority shared surfaces with curtilages defining spaces for café tables and stalls.
At Southend Central Station, on Clifftown Road, we propose the creation of a new square, perhaps ‘Central Square’, to provide a strong physical link between the gateway entrance of the Station and the town centre and the High Street.
